Organizational Background
The Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) was organized in
1985 at the same time as the Surigao Economic Development Foundation
(SEDF) by the same people.
SCCI handles the concerns of the business sector. It is the relevant
voice of the business community. It aims to improve the business
climate in the city and province so that business activities will grow
and our area will be more attractive to investors and tourists. It also
aims to help accelerate socio-economic development in the city and
province.
SCCI through its members has participated in the master planning
workshops of the city, province and region. It works closely with the
city government in formulating tax ordinances, procedures to hasten
business licensing and procurement system, Peace and Order Council,
beautification of Luneta Park during Christmas, etc. The biggest project
so far is to make the city the Convention Center of the Region through
the hosting of the 11th Mindanao Business Conference last August 28 - 30,
2003.
Its latest project with the City Government and the Civil Society
Organizations is the City Coalition for Transparent and Accountable
Governance (CCTAG) Project in cooperation with the Mindanao Business
Council and The Asia Foundation.
SCCI is a member of the Mindanao Business Council and is affiliated
with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
